(Izzy to those of us who got to know her intimately, also
Izzy was a tropical storm when it visited Alexandria)
Two views of Izzy as she came through Alexandria. The left picture is just before it came through and the right is after.
Janet, Dylan & I walked through our neighborhood to view the damage.
A very large Oak came down next door to us. You can see the root system standing about 10 feet tall. This view is from the house behind our next door neighbors.
You probably won't be able to tell, but these are pictures of the tree that fell next door. It hit our shed and fence, but doesn't look like it did damage to them.
The surrounding neighborhoods also got hit fairly hard.
All in all, Izzy didn't hurt us as much as the media thrilled to predict. However, much of Alexandria is still out of power 24 hours after Izzy passed through, we are still boiling water due to contamination and the flooding near the Potomac will get worse as the streams in the mountains feed into it and the water finally gets down to Alexandria.

This is lower King Street, Alexandria. The water extended one block west (away from the river) to Union Street. The Potomac River is behind me about 50 yards. This picture was taken September 27,2003, 9 days after Izzy passed through Alexandria. It was high tide in a swollen river.
