One of my programs, the Multicultural Services Initiative, sponsored Alexandria's Citizenship Day on September 23, 2003. It began with a reception on Market Square outside our City Hall and ended with a Proclamation being adopted by our City Council. The Proclamation honored those Alexandria residents who have recently become naturalized citizens and those City employees who have become naturalized citizens since they have begun working for the City. Citizenship Day's purpose is to welcome and encourage these new citizens to join in the civic affairs of the City. Of course, the fact that Daniel is a new citizen and, so, was able to participate in the ceremonies, made us very proud parents!
