We went to the Guggenheim Museum especially because Daniel loves architecture and Frank Lloyd Wright designed the Guggenheim. The first two images were taken in the Museum Shop, since the Guggenheim is closed on Thursday afternoons.
Then the lights went out at 4:11 pm., 8/12/03 . . . . We left the Museum and stayed around taking pictures, hoping the lights would come back on soon.
I even took an artsy shot of the sidewalk across the street from the Guggenheim. The wall is holding Central Park in.
When we got into a cab (man, are we lucky!) the driver told us the lights were out on the whole East Coast and he hoped he could get us close to Times Square and our hotel.
We walked over to Times Square and found that vendors were out of hot dogs. We wondered what to do about dinner?
Janet & Daniel had tickets to see the Phantom of the Opera for a second time, on the 8th row this time! We went to see whether the show was cancelled (we still hoped the lights would be back on soon).
We found that, since Pizza is made in gas ovens, we could feast on it for dinner.
While we carried our Pizza back to the hotel we passed a closed Micky Ds. People were walking in the streets.
A Guardian Angel was directing traffic.
We ate dinner in the Fireman's Memorial Park across the street from our hotel. It was still light and we still had hope of the lights coming back on.
Daniel and Janet's cell phones got through to Grandma and Daniel's friends. I tried every friend in my address book, but I never got through.
The hotel finally let us up to our 6th floor room where we got the windows open and lay down sweating all night. In the morning, we went down to get something to eat. We found this aptly named deli, which we were in when the lights came on at 12:05 pm, 8/13/03.
